Embroidery of flying dragon, Qing Dynasty. Length 62cm, width 52cm. Imperial or noble article in the Qing Dynasty, mostly a decorative fragment from dragon robes or screens. On silk or satin base, embroidered with mulberry silk thread. Using various stitches including 'gold wrapping', 'seed stitch' and 'satin stitch', with distinct dragon scales and sharp contrast between cloud and flame patterns, reflecting superb court embroidery standards. Mid-to-late Qing Dynasty (Kangxi to Guangxu). Dragon pattern symbolizes imperial power; this embroidery is exquisite, an important object for studying Qing court costumes and embroidery art.
