Description
Ca. 20th century AD. >A carved wooden canoe modelled in the form of an elongated boat, its surface decorated with incised geometric patterns across the hull. The open central section supports a raised framework of crossbeams and miniature paddles, arranged in a grid-like structure that suggests the architectural elements of a canoe with seated rowers. The prow and stern taper to pointed ends, while the carved surface ornament emphasises the length and curvature of the vessel. The small paddles mounted along the framework introduce rhythmic repetition and visual movement across the composition. > >Size: 1360mm x 330mm; Weight: 4.15kg >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Webbs, March 2012, Sale 979, Lot 90. > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
