Johnson in Somerset, franked by 1856-64 2a dull pink and 8a carmine, tied by the uncommon "POST OFFICE / SARAWAK" double ring cancellation in black, additionally each tied by "B172" cancellation struck in transit at Singapore.Ê The cover routed via Marseille with red "1/2" rate marking on face, has another strike of the "POST OFFICE / SARAWAK" marking on reverse, dated as usual in manuscript "17 March 1862".Ê Indistinct (as usual) Singapore P.O. backstamp.Ê A last minute postscript appears inside the flap "I have heard of Stuart he was quite well".Ê An early and exceptional Sarawak cover.
