Demantoid garnet was originally discovered in the Central Ural region of Russia in the 19th century, stones from this region are still considered the most desirable. Specimens with the distinctive 'horsetail' type inclusions are prized and sought after by collectors. A distinctive 'horsetail' in demantoid is sought after and considered valuable by most. Spready horsetail inclusions are noticeable under 10x magnification, almost circular form with evenly distributed fibrous inclusions. Over 3 carats demantoids are considered rare.
