1641/2 Saint Patrick’s Farthing -Minted in the 1641 and 42 in Ireland, the obverse of the smaller copper halfpenny shows St. Patrick dressed in bishop's garments wearing a mitre and holding a double-cross. He is depicted dispelling the serpents from Ireland that are portrayed as various aquatic beasts. In the background is purportedly St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. The surrounding inscription reads “Quies Cat Plebs” . The reverse design shows King David kneeling playing a harp while gazing up at the royal crown of Britain with surrounding inscription “Floreat Rex”, 25.22mm diameter. Mark Newby, a Quaker imported 14,400 of these coins to North America, in 1681 believing that coinage would be scarce in the new world. Condition, Good.
