
A STRAW-GLAZED POTTERY SOLDIER AND A GREEN-GLAZED POTTERY 'HILL' JAR AND COVER The soldier Sui Dynasty; the 'hill' jar and cover Han Dynasty The straw-glazed pale pottery soldier wearing chest armor with one arm raised to his belly to hold a sword or banner; the green-glazed 'hill' jar and cover molded around the cylindrical body with figures hunting and mythical animals in a hilly landscape, all supported on three bear-form feet, the cover modeled as a mystical hill with further animals and hunters with bows and arrows, some damage. XXXVII, where it is distinguished as being of Altaic-Tocharian type; and by Fontain and Wu, Unearthing China's Past, no. 84, together with another figure of the same model excavated from a tomb at Dasikong Cun which appears to date from the early years of the Tang Dynasty.
