Fossilized Plesiosaur Tooth
These plesiosaur teeth come from various species. While they have some fractures and repairs, the enamel remains in generally good condition.
What Were Plesiosaurs?
Though often mistaken for dinosaurs, plesiosaurs belonged to a distinct group of prehistoric marine reptiles. They first appeared during the Triassic period (around 208.5 million years ago) and thrived until the end-Cretaceous mass extinction, caused by the Chicxulub asteroid impact 66 million years ago—the same event that wiped out non-avian dinosaurs.
