
FUKUMOTO FUKU 福本双紅 (B.1973) A Composite Porcelain Mizusashi (Fresh-Water Jar), 'Frost on the Moon' Heisei era (1989-2019), 2014 Formed in the artist's signature manner from three separately thrown components joined by a bluish glaze: two flared bowls supporting a globular vase, the lid with a stalk-like knop, the artist's mark next to the foot ring; with a tomobako (wood storage box) inscribed Tsuki no shimo, signed Fukumoto Fuku, sealed Fuku 8 1/2in (21.6cm) high Footnotes: Provenance Joan B. Mirviss Ltd., New York Fukumoto Fuku typically makes her works out of several different plates or bowls, sometimes without bases, thinly potted and with irregular rims. After an initial firing, she finishes these components in bright glazes ranging from yellow through teal to powder blue, each hue covering a single surface, and then places the pieces together in such a way that they will move slightly in the kiln as they shift on liquified glaze during a second firing.
