Bailey in the glaze; both signed 12 1/4 x 12 1/2in (31.1 x 31.7cm) each approximately (2). Footnotes: Provenance Gift from the artist Yoon Kwang-Cho (b. 1946) was born in Hamheung, Hamgyeongnam-do, North Korea, and later moved to South Korea, completing a B. F. A. in Ceramics at Hongik University in Seoul (1973) and spending a year studying ceramics at Karatsu (1974). Since completing his training, Yoon has continued working in South Korea. His practice draws inspiration from Buncheong wares of the early Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), which inform the colors and materials he utilizes; however, instead of the wheel, he prefers using slabs or coils of clay to construct his pieces. This direct engagement with the material relates to his personal practice of Zen Buddhism, as do works of his that bear Buddhist inscriptions on their surfaces. Yoon has won numerous awards in Korea, including Artists of the Year (2004) from the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul. Yoon's work is in the collections of major museums across the world.
