
RAKU KŌNYŪ 樂弘入 (KICHIZAEMON XII, 1857-1932) A Red Raku Ware Tea Bowl Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926), before 1919 The chawan with slightly outward-angled thinly-carved walls, a rounded hip, and a nearly circular mouth, the interior almost entirely glazed red with crazed clear glaze coating, the chadamari dimple in the base carved in a swirling pattern, the exterior a mixture of red, black, and white glazes, the foot ring unglazed, sealed Raku adjacent to the foot ring; with a tomobako (wood storage box) inscribed with the artist's and the bowl's names, the inscriptions signed with a kaō mark 3 x 4 3/4in (7.6 x 11.4cm) Footnotes: The kaō on the inscription of the box is that of the 13th generation grand master of the Omotesenke school of Japanese tea ceremony Sen Sōsa Sokuchūsai (1901-1979).
