1862 DATED BARNETT RIFLE MUSKET. Cal. 577. NSN. Standard configuration of the South's most popular import musket, 39" barrel, brass furniture, three iron clamping bands. Lock marked with crown & "BARNETT / LONDON". London proved barrel, stock stamped "IC" opposite lock and Sinclair Hamilton marking: "crown / "S / HC / arrow" on comb forward of stamped buttplate tang. "IC" is known Confederate inspector found on other blockade run British muskets. An original chained Enfield nipple protector is attached to rear sling swivel. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pertinent pages showing markings from Pritchard & Huey "The English Connection". CONDITION: fine "as found" overall, complete, matching, & all original, dark iron and brass patinas, crisp mechanics, good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of John "Jack" Dhooghe.
