
A Regency brass mounted rosewood, fruitwood line-inlaid and parcel gilt breakfront side cabinet of Gillows quality 1800-1815, possibly by Gillows Inlaid with ebonised and boxwood stringing and line-inlaid tablets, the satinwood crossbanded top with four projecting rounded front angles and surmounted by a three quarter baluster gallery, above a triple elongated lozenge tablet inlaid frieze, over a pair of central pleated silk and adjoined elongated c-scrolled brass grill inset panelled doors, enclosing one shelf, flanked by two conforming doors enclosing two shelves, interspersed with four engaged fluted tapering columnar angles and two conforming side columns, terminating in six elongated toupie feet, 125cm wide x 41.5cm deep x 99.5cm high, (49in wide x 16in deep x 39in high) Footnotes: A Regency side cabinet attributed to Gillows, with very similar elongated brass grill door panel inserts to those on the offered lot, sold Christie's, London, 16 September 2004, The Glory of Gillows, lot 41. The distinctive three quarter baluster gallery surmounting the top of the present side cabinet is a recurrent aesthetic characteristic found on many such pieces executed by the Gillows firm throughout the period, 1800-1840. Whilst the beautiful veneers combined with the elevated quality of construction indicate that this was certainly the product of a cabinet making company operating at the highest level.
