
A suite of Empire or French early 19th century painted beech seat furniture retaining original Aubusson tapestry upholstery Comprising four fauteuils and a sofa, each with a scrolled dished back above scallop shell headed arms and ring turned baluster terminals capped by roundels, over mille raie blocks and a bowed seat frame, flanked by lozenge tablet angles each inset with a stylised flowerhead, on ring turned baluster tapering front legs terminating in bun feet, with square splayed rear legs, the backs upholstered with a series of tapestries depicting boys and girls from different socio-economic backgrounds and dressed in corresponding attire, including one boy dressed as a huntsman holding a gun and with a dog, within rural and bucolic landscapes, the seats variously depicting rams, sheep, a goose, an egret and a wolf, the sofa back depicting children playing on a 'tree-saw', a kneeling girl arranging flowers, sheep and a barking dog within a rural or bucolic landscape, above a seat depicting a pack of hounds hunting down a wild boar, slight variations in the proportions, some re-painting and refreshment to the decoration, some remnants of old paper labels are printed: 'Chemins de Fer de l'Ouest, Destination, Le Mans', the sofa: 173cm wide x 73cm x 94cm high, each fauteuil approximately: 57.5cm wide x 63cm deep x 89.5cm high, (22 1/2in wide x 24 1/2in deep x 35in high) (5) This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TP TP For auctions held in Scotland: Please refer to the catalogue and/or after-sale information or contact Edinburgh@Bonhams.com for more information.
