Among his most celebrated works are portraits of Lord Tennyson and Lady Lytton, which exemplify his refined approach to characterisation and finish. Girardot exhibited widely between 1880 and 1904, including at the Royal Academy in London as well as at major provincial institutions, including the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. His election to the Society of British Artists in 1874 further reflects his professional standing within the British art world.
