
Three commemorative creamware mugs, circa 1793-1810 Of generous size, the first printed in black with 'Peace with France', the print signed 'Cockburn', 14.4cm high, a porter mug printed with a portrait of Admiral Lord Nelson, flanked by a plan of the Battle of Trafalgar and a list detailing the order in which British ships engaged combined fleets of France and Spain, 11.5cm high, the third mug possibly Swansea, printed and hand-coloured with 'His Royal Highness Frederic Duke of York', 12.2cm high (3) Footnotes: The first mentioned mug commemorates the Treaty of Amiens 1802. The figures in the scene are all titled. Peace joins the hands of Britannia and France, who in turn are flanked by King George III, General Cornwallis, Hibernia ('Ireland'), Napoleon, General Lauriston and Citizen Otto, a putto holds the banner 'Blessed is the Peace Maker'.
