
An engraved coaching rummer, circa 1810-20 Possibly Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the bucket bowl decorated with a coach and four horses, inscribed 'Spare not nor Spend too Much/ Be This Thy Care/ Spare but to Spend and Only/ Spend to Spare' and 'Lord Wellington' beneath, the reverse with the initials 'WHN' within a cartouche surmounted by a castle, all within a foliate and barley swag tied with ribbons, above a square 'lemon squeezer' foot, 14.7cm high Footnotes: Provenance Bonhams, 1 December 2021, lot 147 The verse is taken from 'Necessary Observations' by Thomas Randolph.
