
The Nile and Trafalgar: Two creamware jugs, circa 1805-10 Printed in black, the first with a portrait of Nelson, putti representing Fame and Victory flanking an annotated plan of the 'BATTLE of the NILE', the reverse with the tumultuous battle of Trafalgar, 'The Glorious 21th of October 1805', with 'Come Box the Compass' below the spout, the second jug with Britannia surrounded by military trophies and the banner 'TRAFALGAR', inscribed below 'Britannia leaning upon his Lordship's armorial ensigns, accompanied by her Lion, protecting the Union Shield and Spear, mourns for the loss of her illustrious Her Lord Nelson', the reverse with 'The Farmers Arms' and 'God Speed the Plow', 19.5cm high (2) Footnotes: Provenance Bonhams, Nelson and the Navy, 24 October 2024, lot 50.
