
Attributed to Jean-Baptiste-Fortune de Fournier (French, 1795-1864): Portrait miniature of Napoleon III together with two other 19th century military portraits of gentleman, one probably English and of Barbadian interest, mid 19th century, the other in the manner of Robert Theer (Austrian, 1808-1863) and a similar period portrait miniature depicting King John VI of Portugal All oval, on ivory, the first depicting the sitter wearing a blue uniform with gold epaulettes, sash, star and badge, and the order of the Legion of Honour, set within a paste set metal frame, the second of an officer, traditionally identified as George Poyntz Ricketts, governor of Barbados, wearing a dark green uniform with silver epaulettes and scarlet collar, the third depicting an officer, traditionally identified as a portrait of King Leopold of Bavaria in Hungarian Uniform and Turkish orders, all mounted within gilt metal frames, the first 3.6cm x 2.6cm, the second, 5.4cm x 4cm, the third 5cm x 3cm, the last, 3.2cm x 2.2cm (4) Footnotes: Born in Nice, Jean-Baptiste-Fortune de Fournier was a watercolour and miniaturist who was patronised by the Empress Eugenie and Anatole Davidoff.
