
A collection of four 18th century and one 19th century portrait miniatures of ladies including two attributed to Gervase Spencer (English, 1715-1763) and one attributed to John Donaldson (English, 1737-1801) All oval, on ivory, the miniatures attributed to Spenser comprising one of a sitter with dark hair surmounted by pearls and blue bow wearing a blue dress, initialled to the yellow metal frame and with a painted memorial scene to the rear (now loose in frame), the other sitter wearing a white gown with black lace shawl, black bonnet and holding a posy of flowers, the gilt frame surrounded by garnets, the miniature attributed Donaldson depicting a sitter with padded upswept coiffure in ornate gilt frame, restored to right side, the last two miniatures comprising an English school miniature, circa 1740 depicting a lady with fair long hair wearing a pink dress, the rear with mourning scene, the last, French school in the 17th century style, depicting a portrait of Madame de Sevigny in paste set frame, the first 4.7cm x 3.4cm, the second, 3.2cm x 2.3cm, the third, 3.5cm x 2.8cm, the four, 4.8cm x 3.5cm, the last, 3.5cm x 2.5cm (all not including frames) This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: Y Ф Y Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the UK, see clause 13.
