
Christian Richter (Anglo-Swedish, 1678-1732): Portrait of a gentleman in long wig together with two other 18th century portraits of gentleman, one perhaps of Cardinal de Fleury or M.J.B Boasett, Bishop of Meaux, attributed to Pierre Drevet (French, 1663-1738) after Hyacinth Rigaud, the other of young man with powdered hair attributed to John Downman (English, 1750-1826) the first with the sitter depicted wearing a red cloak, oval painted on vellum, bearing signature and dated to the back, circa 1710, the second, oval, graphite (plumbago) on vellum or chicken skin, the last depicting the sitter with blue eyes, powdered hair and white coat with gold button, oval on ivory, all mounted within gilt frames, the later miniature with a plumed hair keepsake banded with seed pearls within a blue glass border to the reverse, the first, 8cm x 6.3cm, the second, 7.7cm x 6cm, the last, 7.5cm 5.5cm (not including frames) Footnotes: Christian Richter (Anglo-Swedish, 1678-1732) was born in Stockholm although he was mainly active in England. Richter was the son of a silversmith who moved to London in 1702. Pierre Drevet (French, 1663-1738) was born in the Loire valley where the Drevet family were leading portrait engravers for over 100 years.
