Description
This is a single-shot percussion muzzleloading 28-gauge shotgun manufactured in Spain. The firearm features a long blued barrel that transitions from a round profile to an octagonal breech. The lock plate, hammer, and curved buttplate exhibit a vibrant case-hardened finish. The hardwood stock is configured with a checkered wrist and includes a circular metal patchbox or cap box inset on the right side of the butt. A metal ramrod is stored beneath the barrel and is secured by a single brass thimble. Key markings on the breech include the serial number 38181, the manufacturer initials T.A., Cal 28, and a faint SPAIN stamp. Additional technical markings on the side of the barrel include 13.4 R?1 700 kgs alongside Spanish Eibar proof house marks. The firearm is equipped with a bead front sight and a smooth metal trigger guard. Note - As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition
The shotgun is in excellent overall condition, showing very little evidence of use. The blued finish on the barrel is deep and consistent with virtually no thinning. The case-hardened components retain bright, saturated colors throughout. The hardwood stock is well-preserved with sharp, crisp checkering at the wrist and only minor handling marks. The bore appears bright and clear. The percussion action appears to function correctly with the hammer holding at both half and full cock, although we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition.
