Description
An Interesting Rare Scottish Masonic Society French Adrian Helmet with an Italian M33 Liner in good to very good condition. A Scottish or Masonic-style helmet made from a French Adrian helmet typically dates to the post–World War I period, when large numbers of surplus Adrian helmets (introduced by France in 1915 for shrapnel protection) were sold off and repurposed. Civilian organizations including fraternal societies like Masonic orders, veterans’ groups, and ceremonial units adapted these helmets for parade and regalia use by repainting them, adding symbolic insignia, and modifying liners or fittings. In Masonic contexts, especially within Scottish Rite–influenced bodies, European military aesthetics were often incorporated into ritual dress, giving these pieces a quasi-military appearance without actual combat use. As a result, such helmets represent a blend of wartime surplus and early 20th-century fraternal culture rather than formal Scottish military equipment.
