Description
These T-back side chairs are quintessential examples of the American Golden Oak style that saw a massive resurgence in the mid-to-late 20th century. Crafted from solid oak, the chairs feature elaborate "pressed back" designs on the crest rail—a mechanical process used to emboss intricate floral and scroll motifs into the wood. This design is supported by spindle back supports and ornate barley-twist stiles, resting on a four-stretcher base with matching rope-twist front rungs. While these chairs capture the 1890s aesthetic, the solid wood seats and specific construction indicate they are likely high-quality reproductions from the 1970s revival era. The condition is fair; one chair is notably missing both curved wooden back supports (hip huggers) flanking the seat, with a visible replacement screw on the stile. Both chairs exhibit surface scuffs, finish wear on the seats, and minor wood separation consistent with regular use. H 42.5", W 18.5", D 18". Also includes a set of three contemporary oak-constructed chairs designed in the traditional "gingerbread" press-back style, including one armchair and two side chairs. While they emulate the ornate aesthetic of turn-of-the-century furniture, the "Poundex" stamp identifies these as modern reproductions manufactured by the California-based furniture importer. The armchair appears to be a newer addition to the group and remains in solid condition, while the two side chairs show significant signs of heavy use. These side chairs exhibit structural concerns including noticeable cracks in the solid wood seating surfaces and splitting along the turned legs, along with visible modern screw repairs on the back stiles. The golden oak finish shows various scuffs and fading consistent with a well-used household set. H 43", W 22", D 18". Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/ Transport required.
