Description
Artist Michael DesRosiers creates paintings, mixed-media works, and welded aluminum sculptures. Noted for his ability with color, DesRosiers' non-objective art is as in tune with nature as it is with the complexities of the human psyche. This artist has spent decades in the studio refining his unique sensibility, one that combines the authenticity of the abstract idiom with the emotional impact of vivid color. His work has been widely exhibited in galleries and at international art fairs.
DesRosiers begins this mixed-media work by preparing a 41.5 inches by 62.5 inches by 3 inches MDF panel, applying multiple coats of acrylic paint. He then creates painted and printed sheets of paper, each featuring complex patterns in black and silver. Using these unique proprietary materials as a foundation for the composition, DesRosiers interlocks selected pieces, often applying intermediate glazes of translucent paint, and burnishing each layer together one to the next. The result is a seamless image that transcends its components. To complete the piece, multiple coats of MSA varnish are applied for both performance and protection.
"Onyx Mined By Silver" is compositionally reliant on a vertical slab-like shape of silver enamel overpainted by an articulated wash of granular onyx black. The somewhat translucent black overpainting is as uneven as it is stratified, suggesting a significant deposit made over time, and one whose worth must be savored layer by layer to extract its full potential. Standing as it does on a solid base of silver, this soft monument of etched silver is set against a background of solid flat finish black, one that features an array of radiant outward gloss black marks that form an aura encircling the silver slab. The black-on-black mark making emphasized by a finish differential is remarkable and adds to the panache of the piece. The artwork is intentionally unframed. The dripped edges not only record the history of the piece but also serve as the transition between the work and the wall.
This mixed-media work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist. Simple installation instructions will also be included.
