This low (just 14 inches high), sleek coffee table was made by Baker Furniture Company, circa 1976. Stunning black lacquer with a crackle finish and accented with gold leaf detailing, the table top features a colorful vine-and-floral motif with large turquoise blossoms rendered in raised lacquer with additional green leaf foliage. Taking its design cue from the furniture shown at the Brighton Pavillion in England, that seat of Oriental fantasy constructed beginning in 1787 by the future king George IV, this table is wonderfully conceived and executed and was just one example of the many Asian influenced collections produced by Baker Furniture in the 1970s & 1980s. The table is 39 1/2" wide x 27 1/2" deep x 14" high. This table was purchased new for our showroom in the 1970s and was featured intermittently in our displays until recently. As such there are minor signs of wear consistent with its age but is in otherwise excellent condition.
