
Description
Ink and color on paper. Inscribed and signed by the artist, with a date the year of Wuxu (1958). Tang Manxu, a native of Meixian, Guangdong, was born in 1905. He graduated from the Shanghai University of Fine Arts and the Department of Education at Shanghai Longhua Art University. He served as Art Director of the Lianhua Film Company in Shanghai, and taught at several schools, including Bingzhen Middle School in Meixian, Chongya Middle School in Dongyang, Haifeng County Middle School, and Huangpu Zhongzheng Middle School. During the eight years of the War of Resistance, he successively held positions as inspector, secretary-general, section chief, battalion commander, and colonel?s secretary at the Guangdong?Guangxi Border Region Command. In the winter of the 32nd year of the Republic of China (1943), he founded the Ren Wenyiyuan (Humanities and Arts Institute) in Shaoguan, organizing charitable exhibitions to raise funds. After the war, he devoted himself to art and publishing, and held a series of traveling exhibitions. 22.1/4 in. x 18.1/4 in. overall including the frame.
