Description
late 18th century, 337 x 140 cm, West Anatolia
ESKENAZI, JOHN J., L'Arte del Tappeto Orientale. Milan 1983, no. 36
The long format of this Demirci Kula is striking. In this respect, it resembles an example published by Eskenazi in 1983. Typical of the provenance, the design of five blue medallions filled with carnations and hyacinths and surrounded by floral stems here adorns a red-brown field ground. Nine small ewers (ibrik) have been incorporated. The golden yellow main border, with an angular vine attached to tulips, carnations and roses, is particularly beautiful. The vine divides the ground of the border into triangular compartments. The floral design of the rug is deeply influenced by Ottoman court art.
