Description

A pair of Rococo Revival gilt bronze two-arm sconces, likely Continental European, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. These ornate sconces feature a scrolled and foliate-decorated backplate with a central oval medallion. From the lower portion of the backplate emerge two finely cast, curved arms, each terminating in a bobeche and a candle cup designed for electrical fittings. The gilt finish shows a rich patination consistent with age, highlighting the intricate details of the casting. These sconces would have originally been designed for gas or candle power and subsequently electrified.
