An impressive Victorian carved mahogany overmantel mirror, circa late 19th century. This grand mirror features a rich, dark mahogany frame with classical architectural elements. The deeply carved cornice top is adorned with a central gilt bronze plaque depicting classical motifs, flanked by elegantly reeded pilasters with complementing gilt bronze capitals and bases. The original beveled mirror plate is intact and offers a broad reflection. This piece would have originally graced a prominent position over a fireplace or as a hall mirror in a stately home. Its substantial size and classic design make it a versatile piece for a traditional or eclectic interior. Minor surface wear consistent with age, including some scratches and nicks to the wood, and slight foxing to the mirror plate are present. The back is constructed with solid wood panels and retains its original hanging wire.
