This fabulous football heritage poster map was created in 1971 by Football Association designer John Carvosso—best known for designing the official posters for the 1966 World Cup—and endorsed by the FA. It showcases 159 clubs, including all Football League teams and notable non-league sides, detailing their grounds, locations, colours, badges, and founding dates. Published before the rise of hooliganism and long before the advent of the Premier League, the map captures a heritage much of which has since been lost. Iconic stadiums such as Highbury and Maine Road have been redeveloped, many club crests have undergone redesigns (for example, Sunderland removed the ship from its crest in the 1990s following shipyard closures), and some clubs, like Bridlington Trinity, have disappeared entirely. The map is featured in A History of the 20th Century in 100 Maps, published by the British Library. . Compiled by John Carvosso.
