Frenchman Jacques Anquetil claimed his first Tour victory, demonstrating his exceptional time-trialling abilities. Anquetil's triumph marked the beginning of his legendary career, during which he would win the Tour five times. Belgian Marcel Janssens finished second, with Austrian Adolf Christian third. Jean Forestier won the points classification, and Gastone Nencini claimed the mountains classification.
