The map, which is orientated toward the east, covers northwest Germany including parts of the modern-day states of Bremen Niedersachsen and Nordrhein-Westfalen. Emden is located in the lower left hand corner, Bremen towards the upper left, Cologne is marked in the lower right hand corner, and Petershagen upper centre. The river Ems runs diagonally across the map from its estuary in the lower left hand corner. Parts of the river Rhine runs across the bottom right hand corner (Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Cologne are marked); with the Ruhr and Lippe valleys running vertically upwards, with the cities of Essen, Bochum and Dortmund marked. The map is bounded at the top by the river Weser, running through Bremen, Nienburg and Petershagen . Abraham Ortelius, after Christian Sgrooten. Christianus Schrot sonsb descripsit cum privilegio.
