Title: Plan of the turnpike road from… Kensington through Hammersmith… Potter 1814 map Description: Plan of the turnpike road from Counter’s Bridge in the parish of Kensington through Hammersmith, Turnham Green, Brentford & Hounslow to Baber Bridge near the Powder Mills in the Parish of Bedfont, and also the road from Hounslow aforesaid to Cranford Bridge, all in the county of Middlesex. Surveyed in 1814 by Peter Potter, Kentish Town'. A scarce survey map of the Hammersmith to Hounslow turnpike road, most likely prepared for the Turnpike Trust to accompany the Commissioners’ report or a submission to Parliament. We have found no record of this map appearing at auction or in any dealer’s catalogue. The route depicted corresponds today (from east to west) to Kensington High Street, Hammersmith Road, King Street, Chiswick High Road, Brentford High Street, and the London Road through Isleworth to Hounslow, where it divides into the Staines and Bath Roads.
