Description
Manufactured by Weller Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio, circa 1920s-1930s, this art pottery vessel is a weller marvo blue pitcher. The earthenware body is designed in a stout, cylindrical form featuring a short integral pouring spout and a thick, D-shaped handle molded with leaf and vine textures. The exterior is decorated with the Marvo pattern, which consists of a dense, high-relief molded design of tropical foliage, including fan palms, ferns, and various large-veined leaves. The piece is finished in a matte vellum glaze of slate blue with moss green pigments concentrated in the recesses to accentuate the botanical details. The underside of the foot is unmarked, as is common for this Weller line, and retains a dealer label transcribed as WELLER MARVO PITCHER. Dimensions: Approximately 8 inches in height.
