This GORGEOUS cotton 1880's / 1890's Pennsylvania Mennonite star of Bethlehem quilt is treadle pieced and hand quilted, with a deep green background, and unusual chevron border.
It measures 82" X 90" and is in excellent, never washed condition, with the occasional small spot and no wear. The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall.
There is hand quilting around the piecework and in straight line and diamond designs in the background, all at 5-6 stitches to the inch.
The back is a late 19th century seaweed print, the hand stitched binding is an early red print, and the batting is thin. A tag on the back traces the recent provenance (Wisconsin, then Illinois).
