Description
This OUTSTANDING cotton and wool authentic Holmes County, Ohio Amish crazy / honeycomb quilt is all treadle machine pieced and hand quilted, with hand embroidered hatch stitching around the piecework. The quilt was made by an Amish woman named "Mrs. Christ C. Schlabach (b. 1858) for Dena J. Miller (b. 1862"), and was part of the esteemed Darwin D. Bearley Ohio Amish quilt collection. The quilt is featured on p. 23 of Bearley's coffee-table-sized book entitled: "Antique Ohio Amish Quilts." A wrapped, unopened hardcover copy of the book is included with the quilt.
The quilt measures 69" X 71" and is in good condition, with the occasional light age spot, 3-4 pieces that have subtle threadbare/worn areas, some missing embroidery stitching, subtle color loss in some the burgundy fabric (see pics), seam separation in a couple of places, and some threadbare areas of the binding.
There is hand quilting around the piecework and in straight line and zigzag designs in the border, all a 8 stitches to the inch.
The back is a wonderful denimy blue fabric, the hand stitched binding is the same olive-green fabric used in the interior border, and the batting is thin.
RARELY do you find AUTHENTIC AMISH QUILTS this early, or with this rare design -- published, with documented provenance -- truly MUSEUM QUALITY!
