Description
A Rare Japanese Wakizashi with Mid Edo Era (1603-1868) Sword and (1912-1926) Taisho Era Fittings in good condition with nice grey patina to the blade. This rare Japanese wakizashi features blade and sword components with patterns and stylistic characteristics consistent with the Edo Period, while the handle/tsuka appears consistent with the later Taisho Era. This combination suggests the possibility that the sword was preserved over time and later refitted with a newer handle, potentially by a family member who inherited the piece. Japanese swords were commonly passed down through families for generations, often valued not only as weapons, but also as heirlooms connected to family history, status, and tradition. As these swords changed hands over time, it was not unusual for certain components to be repaired, replaced, or updated while preserving the original blade and fittings. In this case, the Edo-style blade and components paired with a Taisho-style handle give the wakizashi strong historical character. It may represent a sword that remained in family possession across multiple eras, with the handle later replaced or refitted during the Taisho period to continue preserving and using the older sword.
