Cal. 46 RF. S# 2931 (on face of action under forearm). Mfg. for the Union during the Civil War, but was delivered after the Confederacy surrendered; these carbines were bought by Remington as surplus & some examples were shipped to France during the Franco-Prussian War. Rnd. 20" bbl. w/ carbine sights. Small iron frame w/ saddle ring & bar on left side. Walnut stock set w/ replacement musket barrel band. CONDITION: metal has dark patina appearance with corrosion & pitting. Wood has worn & aged appearance with hand carving of comb. Bore shows deep pitting with strong rifling. Action in need of attention as it will not operate properly. (01-28849/MD). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
