Waugh (Evelyn) Autograph letter signed ("Evelyn Waugh")

Addressed to Pat Lawson from Wellington, New Zealand, the letter reads "Your very kind letter of invitation to the New Zealand Eucharistic Congress has just reached me. It was written in happier times and, no doubt, you will already have concluded that a journey to New Zealand is now out of the question for me. I have always wanted to visit your country and I can think of no more splendid opportunity than the Eucharistic Congress. I greatly appreciate the honour you did me by asking me individually. I hope and pray that me visiting will one day be possible", one page, scattered foxing, two tape-related stain to the left margin, pencil annotations, 8vo, Easton Court Hotel, Chagford, 26 October 1939, mounted with original mailing envelope addressed in Waugh's hand.
