Album featuring vintage black and white photographs of the Metropole Cinema, the first large cinema in the Victoria area, London, featuring images of the celebrities visiting the cinema in the 1930s (Amy Johnson, Beniamino Gigli, Jack Hobbs, Jessie Matthews, Lorraine La Fosse, Alan Cobham), of various events taking place at the Metropole and of some 'behind the scene' moments involving those working there (usherettes 'undergoing their daily sun bath, which is given in order to counteract the effects of working in the dark during daytime'), modern binding, oblong 4to, c. 1935; together with letters from various actors and actresses to Mr Sowden, the Manager of the Metropole Cinema, including: Madeleine Carroll, Leslie Henson, Frederic March, Gracie Fields, Ronald Colman, Judy Kelly, Victoria Hopper, with some signed photographs and looose signatures of Gloria Swanson and John Gielgud, v.s.
