Two ink original strip cartoons on card of The Perisher, the scenes hand-drawn by Bill Melvin, light handling wear; with two original The Herbs colour storyboards, one featuring scenes telling the story of Parsley and Dill accidentally using cement to build a sandcastle, infuriating Bayleaf the gardener until he sees how much 'the chives' enjoy playing with it, published on Playland in 1968, in fine condition; the other storyboard featuring the story of Dill being cold and deciding to go for a nap in his kennel, only to find Sage asleep in there, in fine condition. ***Michael Bond, author of Paddington, wrote for his former employers at the BBC a series called 'The Herbs' where all the characters were named after the herbs in a herb garden (Parsley the lion, Dill the dog, Bayleaf the gardener, etc). First screened in 1968, it was a huge hit in the BBC's 'Watch with Mother' Tv slot which also featured 'Bill and Ben', 'The Woodentops', 'Pogles' etc. Such was the popularity of the slot that two children's magazines were formed, Pippin and Playland, both featuring comic strips of the shows featured. These magazines were so loved in the late 1960s/early 1970s that Peter Firmin even drew 'Bagpuss' strips exclusively for them, and these magazines and annuals became as much popular as the Tv shows themselves. The main artists for the magazines were Neville Main, Peter Longdon and Bill Mevin.
