The poem, to Mrs Rosa Green (midwife and nanny to George V's children) on her retirement from Royal service, reads "It is regret beyond control/ That I from Mrs. Green must part/ For is she not a worthy soul/ So kind and tender, neat and smart./ Poor little Edward’s tearful look/ When told that she’s departing/ Is almost more than I can brook/ In fact my eyes are smarting./ And so good bye dear Mrs. Green/ Away now I must send you/ A real treasure you have been/ May all successes attend you", signed and dated "Victoria Mary, June -July 1894", with handwritten addition "Every line is endorsed by Mary Adelaide" in her own handwriting; one page, handling wear and browning, affixed onto larger page, 4to, 1894.
Provenance:
From the estate of Rosa Hannah Green, the vendor's grandfather aunt who worked in the household of the British Royal Family, as well as at the court of Spain and Potsdam.
