An interesting group of cards, letters and ephemera related to Charles's beloved labrador Harvey, including: typed dog's pedigree; typed memorandum from Lt. Col. Creasy to the Prince of Wales, saying "Harvey has now settled into the chez Creasy and has accepted us [...] He has developed two unpleasant characteristics. Firstly, bulldozing his way through my flowerbed and, secondly, up-rooting my cabbages in order to devour the hearts" and discussing the chance to obtain a second opinion regarding "Harvey's proposed operation", with handwritten reply from Charles ("C") reading "If you really can endure his anti-social habits - and please say if it is awkward - I am delighted you find him an amusing companion. By all means have a second opinion from you vet", 29 August 1984; a copy of the veterinary report discussing Harvey's operation to remove a tumour formation in the left testis; another memorandum from Creasy to Charles, accompanying two colour photographs (enclosed) of the dog, with Charles handwritten reply "I'm so glad he looses his old self and only hope he isn't destroying too many of your things", 8 November 1984; copy of a letter from a John Walker, who wanted to donate an inflatable pet bed to Harvey "crippled with arthritis", 8 November 1984; a typed letter signed (Charles") to Creasy, reading "I am so grateful to you for letting me know the very sad news about dear old Harvey. You were absolutely right to take the decision you did, although it is always a desperate one to have to take. I am so pleased you all loved him so much. He was a splendid character and when we were both a bit younger, he made me laugh so much by his dotty antics. As you say, he was a loyal old friend and I cannot thank you and your wife enough for your great kindness in agreeing to look after him and for giving him such a happy retirement away from those damp kennels", one page, 4to, Kensington Palace, 17 December 1987; magazine photographs of Charles and Harvey and clipping about Harvey's passing; v.s.(small qty)
