    Rare edition of these sermons by the Franciscan Wild (also Ferus, 1495-1554), first published in 1554.
    "His sermons were of great importance for the preservation of Catholicism in Mainz... In doing so, F. demonstrated a rare breadth of thought by also including Protestant works... Since Sixtus V, almost all of his works were on the Index of Forbidden Books until 1900" (NDB V, 101).

    Johann Wild (1494-1554), a Franciscan friar in Mainz, is considered one of the most important preachers of his time, whose sermons were not without influence from the Reformation.
    "The Roman Congregation of the Index banned his 'Opera omnia' with the exception of the commentaries on Matthias and John." (ADB).
    It is thanks to Wild that Mainz Cathedral was spared from the military campaigns of Albrecht Alcibiades, Margrave of Kulmbach, in 1552.
