The Oeconomus prudens et legalis, a significant early example of economic literature, deals with prudent and proper economic management in nine volumes.
It contains advice on child-rearing and marital duties, on construction and agriculture, urban management, gardening, silk production, and food production, as well as a collection of household remedies and recipes from the Baroque period.
In this weighty work, the understanding of the role of the father of the household was programmatically developed parallel to the role of the regent.
Thus, elaborately crafted and illustrated with outstanding copperplate engravings, it paints an exemplary picture of the political and economic function of the father's role in the early 18th century.
