Description
This antique military-style toy snare drum was manufactured by Morton E. Converse and Son Co. of Winchendon, Massachusetts, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The cylindrical shell features a continuous, vibrant lithographed battle scene with a metallic gold-tone background. The imagery depicts cavalry officers in blue uniforms with red accents charging on horseback alongside a field cannon and stylized explosions. The manufacturer name Converse is printed in lowercase script near the bottom edge of the lithograph. The drum is constructed with top and bottom wooden hoops painted navy blue with a central red pinstripe. It utilizes a traditional rope-tensioning system with a thick cord passed through the hoops and includes original leather tension slides. An internal wooden support hoop is present.
