Description
Offered is an exceptional large 19th-century Continental European porcelain parlor vase, attributed to Bohemian / Austro-Hungarian manufacture, dating to the late Victorian period (circa 1880–1900).
This monumental vase measures approximately 18 inches tall by 14 inches wide, and features an exuberant Rococo Revival form with a rich cobalt blue ground, extensive hand-applied gilding, and a finely executed hand-painted floral cartouche depicting roses and mixed blossoms in soft pastel tones.
The vase is further embellished with:
"• Elaborate pierced and scrolled rim
"• Applied scroll handles with pink floral accents
"• Raised and molded decorative elements
"• Hand-laid gold striping throughout
The rear shows the characteristic pale porcelain body and hand-gilded vertical accents, typical of high-end Bohemian export pieces of this period, with emphasis placed on the richly decorated presentation side.
Marks
"• Impressed "184" mold/shape number
"• Handwritten blue "183", consistent with period decorator or batch numbering
These are not dates and are typical of late 19th-century Continental factories.
Condition
"• No cracks, repairs, or structural damage observed
"• Minor age-appropriate gilt wear
"• Interior shows light residue consistent with age
Overall condition is very good to excellent for a piece of this size and age.
Provenance / Notes
Large Bohemian porcelain vases of this scale and decoration were produced for upscale parlors and salons and are increasingly scarce, particularly in well-preserved condition. This is a true statement piece suitable for display, collection, or interior décor.
