This antique scientific illustration, titled Myxacium (Taf. 34), features four species of the Myxacium genus: Myxacium collinÃtum, arvináceum, mucósum, and mucifluum. Rendered with exceptional precision, the lithograph emphasizes the glutinous texture and structural variations of these mushrooms. Richly hand-colored in amber, ochre, and earthy browns, each specimen is depicted with anatomical accuracy"”highlighting gill orientation, cap surface, and microscopic spores. About the Artist
Carl Gustav Jablonsky (1756 – 25 May 1787) was a Berlin naturalist, entomologist and illustrator. He was also the private secretary to the Queen of Prussia, Elisabeth Christine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel-Bevern. He died at the age of 31. He willed his works to his colleague, Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Herbst, who became a naturalist and entomologist.
