Description
French yellow and floral mid 20th C. tray table.
Heavy carved and detailed wooden "x" frame with a painted enamel finish metal tray top.
Base is designed to custom fit the top, and presents bamboo / cane detailing in shades of gold on the yellow base.
Top is scalloped with four points as centerpieces - one on each side- in the classic tray proportion. Hand decorated with an intricate floral and vine motif which is showing gentle and even aging.
21.75" long by 17" wide by 19" tall.
Tray lifts off the base and both pieces can be used independently if undesired.
Tray fits base beautifully - clearly built as a pair.
Overall piece presents as more substantial than many tray tables - has a nice weight and presence.
Suggests a traditional English market form with Italian paint detailing - wining combo every time!
In keeping with Aesop's fable, Fox and Crow's Motto is "Beware of False Flattery!" So, with each listing we offer a true confession about the item...
Yellow is perhaps the centerpiece color in both our cottages because I love it. It is not the most widely used color, nor is it necessarily attached to our finest things, but each and every space we enjoy is infused with yellow.
My husband feels the same way about patina - the graceful finish of age that can only come with a well-used and appreciated item. The trick with patina is to source genuine articles that can be used in active homes, not simply as museum pieces collecting dust in the corner.
As you might guess, we both gravitated to this table in seconds! Color, patina, details, useful ness - it is a great piece that will accompany just about anything it meets along the way. Thoughtfully constructed when new, and only improving with time. A winner.
