Title: Oil painting First ice on fishing Oksana Kalenyuk Description: NoKalen 1499The oil painting on canvas titled "First Ice on Fishing" captures the quiet thrill of early winter, a moment when the world begins to transition from the warmth of autumn to the cold, crisp embrace of winter. The canvas is alive with dynamic brushwork and a rich, textured surface that invites the viewer into the scene. With bold colors and energetic strokes, the artist conveys a sense of vitality in what could otherwise be a still, cold moment. The landscape is dominated by a frozen river, its surface still smooth and untouched in places, while in other spots, the telltale marks of fishermen punctuate the ice. Small figures, clad in warm clothing, are scattered across the scene. Their dark forms contrast against the soft whites and light blues of the ice, lending the composition a sense of scale and life. They appear as fleeting figures in a timeless rural activity: the ritual of ice fishing, a tradition for many living in colder climates. The figures are not rendered with great detail but rather, they are suggestions of human presence, adding an element of scale to the sweeping, open landscape. The sky, with its expansive blue hues, communicates both the quiet of the moment and the chill in the air. The artist uses cooler tones to reflect the late autumn or early winter sky, creating a feeling of stillness in the atmosphere. Yet, the use of vivid brushstrokes-especially in the sky-suggests the presence of a breeze or a shift in the weather, a subtle movement in an otherwise calm setting. There is a gentle gradient in the sky from icy blue to a faint touch of pinkish orange near the horizon, possibly hinting at the fading light of late afternoon. On the left side of the canvas, leafless trees stand in contrast against the bright, cold expanse. Their gnarled branches stretch upwards, outlined in muted browns, dark purples, and ochre, giving them a skeletal appearance against the more serene elements of the scene. These trees, along with the scattered bushes in the foreground, are painted in textured layers, emphasizing the ruggedness of the wilderness at this time of year. The artist's choice of thick impasto creates a tactile sense of the cold and the texture of the landscape, inviting the viewer to not only see but feel the chill of the winter air. As the eye moves through the scene, patches of snow and ice take shape in varying shades of white, cream, and pale blue.*** ABOUT THIS PAINTING **** TITLE: "First ice on fishing"* ARTISTS: Oksana Kalenyuk * SIZE: 45x60 cm/'17.71x23.62 inches'* MEDIUM: oil, canvas* HAND PAINTED: Original painting from our collection* CONDITION: Photos provide accurate information about the product.About the artist: Kalenyuk Oksana was born in 1964 in Rivne region.
